Social Media Marketing–The Changing Face Of Marketing

If you haven’t been utilizing social media marketing in your business, you are missing out on its considerable benefits. In a Nielsen survey conducted in 2011, it was revealed that more than 90% of consumers surveyed trusted recommendations from acquaintances, and that about 70% trusted opinions of other people posted on websites. The same survey also revealed that most people consider online advertisements less trustworthy, with a less than 34% trust rating among all respondents.

One thing that can be gleaned from this information is that people’s opinions count for a lot when it comes to inspiring consumer trust. Put simply, if your brand is creating a buzz in social media circles, there is a good chance of pulling in considerable numbers.

It is important to realize that social media marketing is an entirely different animal from other forms of marketing, and it requires a completely different approach. You aren’t likely to get much benefit from tacking on a social media campaign to your overall marketing, and doing so can be disastrous. Implemented inappropriately, social media marketing can take on a decidedly spammy and intrusive tone.

Much has been said about the interactive nature of social media. But using it for marketing purposes requires a more in-depth approach that goes beyond simply harvesting consumer response. In order to be most effective, social media marketing requires a significant degree of engagement with your market.

Of course, people aren’t just looking to interact with marketers. Any given audience is far more likely to respond to the opportunity to interact with technical staff, customer service representatives, and other people who actually have an impact on the way they perceive a product or service. This is one area wherein small businesses have an edge over larger businesses. In order for big businesses to compete on the same level, they will have to get down from their ivory towers and really engage the customer in the trenches.

I am getting almost 25% of my visits from different social media. This is also one of the areas I put the most time in since I feel this is the future.

I am just stuck on how to get more Facebook likes. I’ve heard stories of success with giveaways, etc. Facebook is the number one traffic provider to my site, yet I only have around 70 likes. If I could get that number up to something like 1,000…it would be great. Do you provide services to build Facebook popularity?
