I am going to break it down with some simple how to steps that I have learned through the years of how to get the most out of a conference without attending. Believe it or not, I have used these simple steps to benefit, learn, grow, and even network through some of the top conferences without ever paying or going to the conference itself.

So I am hear to share how to get the most of out of the Affiliate Summit West 2013 without attending. That’s right, I have learned through the years several tips, ideas, and ways to still get just out of the Summit even though I will not attend it.
Have A Game Plan
Its just like attending the Summit there is so many opportunities you will need to go in with a plan. Know which keynote speaker, workshop, or section. Some conferences will simulcast only certain part or speakers. Though the Affiliate Summit does not simulcast any of the Summit. There are still tons of ways to get literally full access to all the information presented ast Affiliiate Summit.
Here is a list of all the Affiliate Summit Information:
Read What Bloggers Say
Now days there is a blogger for just about anything. Especially when it comes to conferences so many people want to share this experience with others. Usually in my experience even when I attend the conference, I found myself coming home and searching for blogs. What I have found is usually better information, notes, and things that I missed.
Just searching for other blogs that are posting there experience of the conference.
Also many of the major conferences have their own paid bloggers that will blog about the conference. (this is helpful but may not share everything like many other blogs that are going for person or professionally.)
Lastly, I like to find one or two blogs that seems to really be sharing the conference information and stick with following them. Now this may not be real time per say, but I the information usually is posted fairly quick. Early when I tried this I can remember getting lost, and trying to find and follow to many blogs and I would literally just overwhelm myself and was not about to get the most out of the conference,
The power of twitter is amazing these days! I find that twitter is a great way to check real time conference information. I have gotten more information, help, or golden take away from a tweet than I have sometimes sitting and attending a 3 day conferences.
Another way is to follow the Twitter hashtag most conferences have a specific Twitter hashtag that you type into Twitter as follow everyone talking about that specific conference. I don’t stop just at the hashtag,

I will than try to tweet out and interact with attendees to the conference. I have even had others email notes, presentations, and power points. I am just the type that believe in interacting, and believe the saying it never hurts to ask.
Another great way that I have used to get the most out of a conference that I do not attend is by facebook, slide share, four sqaure, and even podcasts. This is a very simple way to continue to follow, check what attendees are saying, and can not stress enough to connect with these attendees.
One aspect that is a negative of not going to conferences is the actual face to face networking, but I don’t let that discourage me. This is why I work even that much hard to dig and connect with attendees through social media.
Take the extra steps to do your research and know what your looking and continue to learn.
Some conferences will even post presentations that were used in the conference at slide share. Here is a great examples the Affiliate Summit West 2013 offered this “First Timers Orientation for Affiliate Summit West 2013“.
Affiliate Summit West 2013 Phone Application
I always will down the Phone app that is offered with the conference as well. This in itself is a ton of content that is offered. Most conference put money into impressing and will offer free content, videos. podcasts, and complete conference information.
Connect After The Summit
Lastly I like to try to connect and meet up face to face and debrief the conference with someone that actually attend if all possible. This a great way to one connect, continue to focus on some of the key take aways, and be able to plan for action steps that need to be taken. I also take this time to share with the person that I am meeting with of how I would like to be held accountable. Some might call it the buddy system, but whatever you want to call it.
The bottom line is I know I need someone in my life to bounce ideas off, continue to grow with, and to help me stay focused.
Lastly, these conferences are great, but I can remember going to a conference several years with an older gentlemen and I think we had like a group of 8 or 10 of us go this 2 day conference. I can remember everyone getting all hype and excited for the 2 days while we were at this conference. But I can remember this older gentlemen while he was engaged was not all hyped like the rest of the group. I can recall asking him for his thoughts on this conference. I will never forget what he shared, “He said listen. This conference is good, but in my years of experience all these conferences are a complete waste of time. Let me tell you why, he went on to share. It does not matter what happens in this conference and while there is some great information. The truth is what are you going to do with this information once we leave this conference.
That’s the real question! What actions are you going to take after the conference?
