What is the scope of what you want to accomplish within the upcoming year?
In terms of my online marketing, I have recently started to work on building a community around making money from email lists at list community. I made a goal to grow my own list community membership to 65,000 members by year end. This is to show my members how it is possible to start from scratch and build a list of that magnitude. I know list building. I have number of lists myself but with listcommunity.com I am hoping to build a community around it so that everyone can benefit from it. I plan to teach people how to make money on the internet by list building.
You recently sat down with John Chow, Could you share your experience with this and what was your biggest take away?
Yes it was great that I had the opportunity to meet in person one of the best online marketers I have been following for years. I had an opportunity to attend a marketing summit in Vancouver, Canada. At that event John spoke about internet marketing and about his online business in general. From his presentation as well as from my conversation during dinner with him, he made it clear that in order to have a successful online business you need to have a solid business system in the background. It is that system that will generate income for many years to come. In his case, it’s the system that makes him most of the money. I came out of that weekend summit and said to myself that I will teach many other people the same that I’ve believed for many years – to build a true system not just a blog. That weekend, John basically validated what I always felt is very important for online businesses. To sum it up, here it is:
- Be consistent (post or share on a regular basis)
- Always deliver value (don’t just cut and paste or repeat things that are said thousand times already)
- Don’t do it yourself (outsource or form a success team around you)
- Treat your blog like a real business
- Don’t take things so seriously; have fun!
- Build a system from the beginning and not just a blog. Blogs don’t make you rich. A well planned system behind your blog will make you rich.
What business projects do you have coming up in the new future?
As I mentioned earlier, I am pulling together a community around list building at list community. This project is under works now and I want to show people how it is easy to make a six figure income online without putting in too many hours.
How have you been able to separating yourself from others with your industry?
In order to stay successful you need to be able to look at what is coming down the path. I have always been able to get my hands on things before they hit the mass. This has always helped me achieve greater successes compared to many other online entrepreneurs.
What’s the best business advice you have applied to your business?
I’ve made many mistakes over the past 15+ years trying to make money on the internet. One lesson that I have learned over the years is that having a business plan is crucial for any online venture. Treat your ideas just like a new business. Put together a business plan even if is not the best plan. It will help you decide if that venture is any good. If it takes off, the plan will help you stay grounded. Have a business plan if you are planning an online venture. That would be my advice to those starting today.
What’s a secrets can you share in regards to creating an email list?
You are going to fail on your first few attempts even if you are following word for word a system sold by another successful internet marketer. Only way to be successful with building a strong email list is by trial and error. You got to try and when you fail you will build the next list better. You will be able to track your conversion rates, your click through rates, your open rates, etc, etc. YOU MUST TRACK every campaign. Also your give away product used to capture the leads must be a solid product created by you. This will definitely help you get started in the right directly. Don’t forget to continue to tweak to improve your conversion rates.
I am successful because…
I have been at this for a while. Of course I don’t do this full time. This has become a hobby and a testing ground for me. I have managed to learn that I can’t do it all by myself. I outsource most of my work. I am consistent and I know how to follow through with my ideas. I know how to validate and test before I commit myself to new ideas. In the past, everything sounded so good. So you spend months working on an idea that will not go anywhere. Having the ability to proactively plan and structure a system is what is keeping me successful.
Anything else you would like to share?
“Success follows doing what you want to do. There is no other way to be successful.” – Malcolm Forbes. This quote sums up what I had in mind to share with your audience. Find your niche and give it all you got and you will be successful. Don’t just copy what someone else is doing. The latter will only lead you to disappointment. All the best.
