Discover Unique Marketing Methods That Fit Your Personality

How does one get started in marketing? What are the steps involved? Ask ten different online marketers, and you will probably get ten different answers to how things work and which marketing strategies are better than others. Some will find espouse specific marketing methods, while others may find those same strategies impractical and ineffective. This doesn’t mean one marketer is better than the other though, because there is no single marketing method that is better than the other. It simply boils down to how the method fits the personality, style, strategy, and goals of the marketer.

We all have different personalities, and we all prefer to do some things more than others. Some people like to invest and take risks, while others hate the idea of spending a dime and prefer to do all the dirty work instead. Marketing is not a cookie cutter system, and there are actually several marketing concepts and ideas we can use and pattern our strategies after. The point is to find something that suits your passion and discover the most effective marketing methods for your purpose.

How To Personalize Your Marketing Strategy

Put Your Personality in Everything You Do

Every time you do something online, whether it is making new blog posts or newsletters, make sure to put your personality in that piece. Often called the “voice”, this will give people a good idea of the kind of person you are. Your voice is very important–especially so in social media–where interactive exchange and two-way communication is always emphasized. Putting your voice to your write ups will help people identify you as a real person, rather than as a ghost writer behind the company’s name.

Of course, when you have a lot of people who like the personality that shows through in your writing, you will gain a lot more readers and loyal followers. This will ultimately translate into conversions such as sales and successful online marketing campaigns.

Brands and companies often assign people to manage their social media accounts, tasking them to post updates, announce promos and latest offerings, and share information about their company. Where so many companies fail however is in neglecting to respond to the questions of followers or failing to ask questions that can help people in their target market. This impersonal approach has been a major obstacle for many companies, and it tends to discourage people and even affect the brand’s reputation negatively.

How Use Your Online Marketing Method with Your Personality

Nobody knows you better than you know yourself. By realizing this, it will be much easier for you to infuse your personality with your online marketing strategy. Some marketing pieces written by ghost writers may sound informative and professional, but they are often written in third person. This makes it difficult (if not impossible) to present a clearly defined opinion, and leads to the characteristically monotonous approach of ghost written articles.

Find Your Dominant Personality

One of the very first things you need to do is to identify your key personality traits. This could be your wit, your facility with word play, charm or friendliness, or even brutally honest criticism. You should then take these qualities and infuse them into your writing. Take for example the two popular channels for strength training (Elliot Hulse) and bodybuilding in YouTube (Hodge Twins). Each one applies a different approach to giving tips and suggesting things that worked for them. The former uses philosophy and science, while the latter employs tested and proven bro-science. What makes these two approaches interesting is how they infuse their personality in their videos. While Elliot Hulse is more like a brutally honest coach, the Hodge Twins adopt a funnier and more entertaining approach. In any case, both weave their personality in their videos to great effect and the results definitely speak for themselves!

Choose Who You Want To Be

As soon as you understand who you really are, so will your target audience. By defining who you want to be before you even start your business, you will be better able to map out an effective marketing plan.

Keep an Eye of Your Competition

Finally, try to find out what your competition is doing in terms of marketing strategy. You should especially pay attention to those who employ a more personalized way of communication. Over time, you will be able to identify the personality that suits your brand the best and is more closely aligned to the interests of your target market.

Growing up I was always told that I had “voice” in my essays and papers. I try to carry that over to my marketing now so that I can catch people’s attention and get myself out there.
